First of all - I want to engage in friendly discussion. I’m a developer and changed to DO because of the awesome tools they have
Unfortunately, after testing out things with the $20 VPS, I’m left shocked. The server’s “download” speed can’t exceed 100kb/s, rendering it completely useless for anything other than…having a VPS?
I’m running a CentOS and had someone better help me with configuring it but to no avail, it seems that indeed DO’s network is limited this way and, to be frank, as of now, it’s not better than a really bad shared host.
I can’t even upload a wordpress theme without it giving me the “max execution time exceeded”, it’s genuinely not usable.
Am I doing something wrong or is it really this slow? I’d be willing to upgrade as money is not an issue, but dang - this left a really sour taste in my mouth.

Just an update - I’ve configured everything about PHP to push as much as it can, tested the I/O and they’re all extremely high, it’s not an issue with the server itself but it does really seem that somewhere, on the software stack, it throttles.
