I have a standard droplet($5/month). My main concern is a DDOS attack would generate a big charge, so I would like to know if there is a way to setup a limit spending in my droplet?

Yes you can set up a billing alert to get an email if your usage goes over a certain amount. Instructions on how to set one up are here: https://www.digitalocean.com/docs/billing/billing-alerts/

Hello, mcrhistianrs

You can set up a billing alert as per celiawelia suggestion. In this way you will be notified if the usage goes over a certain amount and you can then take some actions.

If you still have some concerns about this, you can also reach to our support team.

  • Yeah a billing alert is great at lining digital oceans pockets, it doesn’t seem there’s much in the way of protecting customers it seems.

    • Hello,

The billing alert will notify you if your usage goes over a certain amount. If the may concern here is that an attack can generate a significant spike in the traffic, I will recommend ensuring the droplet’s security is fully configured.

      • Hi Alex,

Every major consumption cloud provider has some level Cost control/budget management.

These rules are imperative for automatic control to prevent from Denial of Wallet attacks.

Are you suggesting that the alert is enough, and Digital Ocean will not protect me from a unmanaged surge in cost - unless I take manual remedial steps.

        If so, that’s wholly unacceptable.
