Question

Issue with FTP access and ProFTPD

Posted May 21, 2013 4.5k views
Hey guys, I just purchased the $5 plan and I'm really excited about it. I have installed the LAMP stack for Ubuntu 12.04 and also setup ProFTPd according to this tutorial: https://www.digitalocean.com/community/articles/how-to-set-up-proftpd-on-ubuntu-12-04 I can ping the ftp server and everything but I am lost on how to login. What username do I use? What password? I have tried using root@domain.com and the password for the droplet and my digitalocean password and username but nothing seems to work. Did I forgot anything? Do I need to register the user first? I already contacted support and they told me to ask the community. Thank you very much!

You're not allowed to login as root via FTP for security reasons.

You have to set up your main user: https://www.digitalocean.com/community/articles/initial-server-setup-with-ubuntu-12-04
