Kubernetes Load Balancer sends traffic to all nodes? Even those without a web service!?

I have:

  • a Deployment “web” scaled to 3 replicas
  • a Service of type LoadBalancer that routes traffic to it
  • 4 nodes on the cluster

Now from the DO dashboard I see that the LoadBalancer says “Accepting traffic” for all 4 nodes! How is that possible? At most 3 different nodes have a web process (I have only 3 replicas).

Is this normal/correct? Is it a bug in DigitalOcean? Or should I fix something in my configuration?

Hi there,

I believe that this is normal, as later on if you scale your pods to 5 for example, the Load balancer needs to be able to proxy the traffic to all nodes.

Do you get any timeout errors when visiting your app?
