Managed Databases and Reporting on AWS / Microsoft

MySQLDigitalOcean Managed MySQL Database

I am currently trying to analyze some data that I have on the managed MySQL database service. However trying to connect through either power bi / aws quicksight has been a real headache.

  • Connecting through power bi on Windows desktop out rightly fails. This is with the correct login details.

  • Connecting through quicksight outrightly fails with ssl enabled and soft fails without ssl enabled. The error without ssl enabled is Public Key Retrieval is not allowed.

Could someone kindly clarify on if it is possible to connect these 2 to a managed database on digital ocean?

Hi Christiangumo

Are you having issues to connect to Power Bi Desktop?
this is what I did.

From Get Data select MySQL database, click Connect.

On field ‘Server’: add your host address and port:
db-mysql-xxxxx-xxxx-xx-xxxx-xxxxxxx-0.b.db.ondigitalocean.com:port#

On field 'Database’: add database name.

when prompted to add your credentials, select 'Database’.
Enter user name and password and you should be good to go.
