Migrating a WordPress site

Does anyone have advice for the best way to migrate a WordPress site from a 10yr old D.O. server slice (with Centos OS, and 10 yr old version of WP) to a new server slice using Ubuntu 20.04? Thanks, Jon

created a new droplet, with WP openlitespeed, installed the all-in-one wp migration plugin, adjusted php.ii to increase the upload limit. But I can’t upload it, I select the file and it’s stuck at 1.15% forever. What do I do? I need to migrate the site to this new droplet. Thanks

Hi @jonDolphin, We have a series of tutorials that cover the process of migrating from one Linux server to another which you can check here:

In general, you’ll need to spin up a Droplet matching your current configuration like PHP version, WebService (Nginx/Apache) and configure it for a Wordpress website. Then you can transfer the files and DB over and then the DNS.

Another option is to use the All-in-One WP Migration plugin. The plugin can handle the migration process on your behalf.

The final step will be to test everything and make sure it is working fine and then switch the DNS settings and push your site live from DigitalOcean.

Hope that this helps!
