Migrating from MediaTemple

Posted on April 20, 2015

I am considering moving away from MediaTemple to Digital Ocean, but I’m not sure if its a smart move.

Last month my domains had:

13gb disk usage 32gb transfer

I’m paying almost $100 a month, but I also have email service, and loads of MySQL databases. Am I right in assuming that there is no email service with DO, what about MySQL? Does that exist?

Nick

It’s a un-managed root access vps, so you have to set everything up, from the web server, your SQL, either it be MySQL, mariadb, or any other database, there is email you just have to set it up sometimes new accounts have the mail port blocked so just send in a ticket to get it opened initially, there is lots of well written tutorials for everything in the tutorial area of the community

As of this moment I could not find an email service in DO, but DO supports installing mysql when you are creating your droplet. You would have root access so you can potentially install any database you want, although you would have to manage the database by yourself. You can reach out to the community if you are facing any migration issues.

half of my clients are on google mail now actually, but some are not.
