MX records for subdomains

Posted July 20, 2013 10.1k views
Hello, i'm providing subdomains of my domains to my family members an a few friends. I want that they are able to choose the mail-server they like, so I have to set the MX records for the subdomains to their mail-servers. But this is not possible at DO DNS. Would you think about an integration of that feature please? Respectfully Andreas Pfohl

How (or why) is it not possible? What did you try doing up to this point?

I've never tried it; but couldn't this be done by creating A records for the subdomains instead of CNAMEs?
You misunderstood. I want to use several different mx records for the sub-domains of a domain. For example:

father MX 10

That the MX of ponits to

I can't set the hostname at the beginning of the record.
What if you separate out the subdomains from the zone file (and create separate zone files for each subdomain)?
What platform are you using for your mail servers? Have you checked to see if it supports domain aliases (like Google Apps: What is a domain alias?)?
