My site is not reachable via DNS (URL). But it is accessible via [ipaddress]:[port]. Could some one please help me to sort out this issue?

My site is hosted via Sub Domain URL. When I am hitting that URL it saying “This site can’t be reached”. When I am trying to access same site via [IPAddress]:[Port] then it is easily reachable.

Please could someone help me in this.

I have setup “A” record for my sub-site. Is that enough ?

When did you set the A record? Keep in mind that due to DNS cache from the ISPs all DNS changes might take up to 24 hours in order to fully propagate. You can check the propagation using this link:

Have you tried checking your site using a hosts file to see if everything works fine?

Let me know how it goes.

  • Thanks

I have checked propagation using provided link. It is working.

I am not aware how we can check site using hosts file? Could you please explain it ?

    • You can edit the hosts file on your PC to bypass the DNS lookup and access the site on your server through your main domain. This only affects your PC and visitors to your website will see the site as normal.

The location of the file is as follows:

      Windows PC c:/windows/system32/drivers/etc/hosts

      Mac OSX /private/etc/hosts

      Linux /etc/hosts

Just open it up in your favorite text editor (e.g. Notepad) and add that line on the bottom:

On Windows you need to run Notepad with administrator permissions (right click -> run as administrator). On MAC the best way to edit it is using terminal and typing “sudo nano /etc/hosts”, then adding the line and pressing Ctrl+X.

Once you have made the change, save the file then restart your PC and browse to your website as normal.
You will see it served from our systems and will be able to test the full functionality of your CMS.
To view the site on your existing host, just remove the line from your hosts file.

Let me know how it goes.
