My Site was Cloned and Reuploaded to another Domain

Hey guys,

I’m working on a site (, it’s more of a side project, it isn’t really important or anything but something quite weird happened today.

So I use formspree on the site’s form because I can’t be bothered with PHP.
How this works is you set it up, send the first form post when the site is online, not local, then it sends you a mail to confirm the association of the domain name to the email.

So this morning I got an email asking to confirm the domain the form submission was some viagra spam.
Went out to check the site and found out that it was an exact copy of mine, a clone.

So I whoised the domain and found out that the site is actually hosted on DigitalOcean, and, in the same location as mine. (Amsterdam) Which just ads to the weirdness.

Tried to wayback machine and found nothing of interest really, the site apparently has never really been used, its been sold and transferred and had whats looks like a spammy blog with shit content to get views (back in march 2016 I think)

Now I have 2 questions :

  • why would anyone want to do this (only reason i could think of might be negative seo)
  • what am I supposed to do when this kind of stuff happens

As I said I don’t really care much for the site or its content its pretty much already a template, but I am really intrigued as to why anyone would want to do this…

Any help is appreciated.

PS: sorry for my meh english, i’m not native.

same IP, so it’s not a clone … it’s actually the same site :) you can edit your webservers configfile to discard any domain thats not yours for example …
