my wordpress site goes very slow

Hello everyone:

For a couple of weeks ago my website in wordpress going very slow, I have a droplet with 1GB of ram with CentOS, do not know why this is happening. I have only one website hosting up to 12 parallel views, is the only one.

Since I started the site content not increased much, but before I loaded the site in 2 seconds, now I visit each page takes me 30 seconds.

Can anyone help or has any idea what’s going on.

  • as a first step, run all Wordpress updates. Run all updates on your webserver OS. Reboot.

    After it boots back up, run top from the command line and see if anything is using up tons of resources. (it will give you a list of running services and how much RAM/CPU they are using)

    report back if anything looks crazy.

  • Hi, thanks for your comment, as did all of the above, I commented that I have my wordpress optimized. Also my droplet and the problem persists even moved my website to another service provider’s and the other service provider’s still just as slow, which makes me suspect that is the web site itself.

    Any ideas?

  • Do a speed test using and post the results URL here. It’ll be easier to guide you.

  • In truth it is not its own but a customer site and am optimizing the site, I’m in charge.

  • Disable all plugins, and (temporarily) switch to one of the default Wordpress themes.

    If the site runs great, start enabling the plugins one by one and check the speeds.
    After that, re-enable your theme.

The three files that are taking up to 20 seconds to load are the following:

Where did you get this theme and why is it generating CSS using PHP? Did the site load time increase after switching to this theme?

If you understand PHP code open these files and check if they’re making HTTP requests to any remote URLs.

You also need to enable gzip compression and set expires header. But they don’t provide a significant boost as of now with these files taking a lot of time:
I believe you’re using Nginx so edit the virtual host file of the domain and add the following inside the server {...} block.

    gzip on;
    gzip_disable "msie6";

    gzip_vary on;
    gzip_proxied any;
    gzip_comp_level 6;
    gzip_buffers 16 8k;
    gzip_http_version 1.1;
    gzip_types text/plain text/css application/json application/x-javascript text/xml application/xml application/xml+rss text/javascript;

    location ~* .(ogg|ogv|svg|svgz|eot|otf|woff|mp4|ttf|css|rss|atom|js|jpg|jpeg|gif|png|ico|zip|tgz|gz|rar|bz2|doc|xls|exe|ppt|tar|mid|midi|wav|bmp|rtf)$ {
               expires max; log_not_found off; access_log off;
