mycrypt installed but no change

Posted October 18, 2014 4.7k views

I am new to the community. I have setup the dns, cname, and now am at the step of having installed the sudo apt-get install php5-mcrypt.

However, the browser is still showing Mcrypt PHP extension required.

I am on the default LAMP server provided.

I am using Laravel 4 for the app uploaded through Filezilla.

Restart your webserver.

  • That did change the status, thanks. Now it says Error in exception handler.

  • Can you post the full error?

  • All it shows is a white screen that says “Error in exception handler.”

After doing some research I believe it is a permissions issue but do not know how to fix.

In the command line I tried this:

    user:~ striker$ chgrp -R apache app
    chgrp: apache: illegal group name

  • ok, the support team said this but I am lost:

The error you referenced is due to the web server being “www-data” and not apache. Please review this & attempt once more.

    What does this mean?

  • Apache on ubuntu runs as the www-data user/group, not apache as on RHEL-based systems such as CentOS. So you need to run:

    chgrp -R www-data app
  • I ran root@valleyvuecoatings:/var/www/html# chgrp -R www-data app
    restarted droplet

    still no change

showing white screen that says Error in exception handler.

Figured out error exception handler. It was permissions.

chmod -R 777 app/storage
