Great question! This is very relative to your situation, but I can give some generic information. To export a database, you would basically do this:
mysqldump dbname > dbname.sql
From there you could take that file and push it to a backup location. You could script that backup or use existing backup software. The choices of how you go about doing this are rather endless, and based mostly on where it is that you want to store the backups.
