Need to Remove Authorization Req Prompt on Wordpress

January 15, 2015 5.2k views

Here is the wrinkle,

when I follow the directions on other posts and logon to the apache2 file, it is blank.

There is no WP Admin stuff to null. I have had an ssl installed on other domains on my DO account (not sure if that would affect this install).

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The extra password dialog is defined inside a DirectoryMatch directive in the file

Locating the DirectorMatch directive that includes the authentication configuration and removing that section and then running:

service apache2 restart

will remove this.

  • There is nothing in that apache2 file…

  • What command are you using to open the file? running the following should dump the content:

    cat /etc/apache2/apache2.conf

This is the main apache web server configuration file. If it were blank then any restart of your web service would cause the service to attempt to load this file and fail to run altogether.

  • It says permission denied

  • when I try “/etc/apache2/apache2.conf”

There is nothing in that apache2 file…

From what I gather, I just had to nano /etc/apache2/apache2.conf and comment out this section :

<DirectoryMatch ^.*/wp-admin/>
AuthType Basic
AuthName "Restricted Area"
AuthUserFile /etc/apache2/.htpasswd
Require valid-user

Just commented all of it, hopefully that’s not a bad thing. Please let me know if it is.
