Never get paid for user referrals

I have some user referrals and they have already paid $10 for the VPS host. I got some amount in my Referrals setting in dashboard two months ago (under the Earned section), and set the payment method to “Enable Account Credit Payout”. But they are never get paid for the latest two months. I thought you would transfer the earned amount for my billing balance, but instead you were charging me.

How can I get the user referrals earned amount to be paid. How can I use them to apply my commission towards my account balance as credits? Did I missed anything?

I have same issue from a referral 9 months ago … here’s the bizarre response I got from raising a support ticket.


Your account was found to match patterns associated with fraudulent behavior, which is a violation of our Terms of Service. After review, we have determined that restoring access to your account is not possible.

Note: Any PayPal payments or Card pre-authorization charges initiated on sign up have been refunded and will post as soon as it clears. A card pre-authorization charge is only a temporary authorization hold, and no funds are being transferred from your card or account to DigitalOcean. The hold will be released by your bank within a few weeks, and in many cases much sooner. You will see those amounts reflect in the coming week, probably sooner.

Every user of DigitalOcean has a unique referral URL. When someone uses your link to visit DigitalOcean and signs up for an account, they become a Pending Referral listed in your account.

Once that customer incurs and submits payment for at least $25 in billable services, your referral will be converted and will appear under the Earned column.

We honor referral payouts at the beginning of each month after evaluating the referral status of each account. This can take a bit of time as we evaluate a number of variables, but at that point, all of the Earned referrals will be credited to your account ($25 each). Your referral will then appear in the Paid column of your referrals page.

Further information:

  1. There is no limit to how many people you can refer.
  2. Unfortunately, we cannot retroactively apply referral URLs to user accounts.

So not really sure what they are talking about here but clearly they don’t pay out of honour referrals. If they don’t resolve or pay mine I’m taking my businesses off their servers … doesn’t fill you with confidence with that kind of support.
