Newbie question regarding best practice for setting up workflow

 • Posted April 2, 2014

Very new to Linux and Cloud Hosting. Have done websites from hosting providers for, php, Windows hosting.

I set up my droplet per instructions. What I’d like to do is set up a similar Ubuntu VM on my work and home computer that mirrors the exact configuration on the droplet.

Basically: LAMP stack Laravel (for web pages) BitBucket (for checking in files, and checking out files on droplet)

I have the VM set up on my work computer. I have the droplet. I’m learning about installing packages (very different world for me).

Two questions:

 • Is this a reasonable workflow? Is there a better workflow?
 • Is there a GUI option? I know Putty works for command line, but is there an option to have a graphical interface to my droplet?

Thanks for any insight.

Ah, cool. Thanks for the info and link!

Your workflow sounds fine to me.

The Digital Ocean community doesn’t recommend installing a panel (cpanel, zpanel, etc). You also should ditch Putty and use Xshell, which is free for educational and home use.
