(Newbie to Websites) I cannot login with my root password. Wordpress panel.

November 6, 2014 2.7k views

This is my first attempt at having a website.

For some reason, I am doing something wrong because when I look at the tutorials all it says is to specify custom domain names to ns1-ns3.digitalocean.com

I also inputted the ip in name server registration on NameCheap.

The droplet domain registration also accepted the add domain.

When I use WinSCP or the Opera browser or IE to login to the ip address - I get the username and password box but when I copy paste the root password, it just resets the sign box as blank.

The root password you received is used to log into the server directly via SSH. Check out this article for all the details:

The password that is requested when you visit the WordPress site via the browser is different. To retrieve it you must first log into the server. For all the details on the WordPress One-Click app, check out:

DigitalOcean Droplets are managed using a terminal and SSH. SSH is an encrypted network protocol for remote server login and command execution. It is the standard method used for accessing and interacting with Linux servers. This tutorial shows how to connect to a DigitalOcean Droplet for the first time by using the OpenSSH client.
  • HELP! I could not see how many characters were typed in XShell or if it did pasted the password during the change password input current UNIX password so I switched to Putty and now the root password is being denied.

Ive got the same problem.

Im following this tutorial https://www.digitalocean.com/community/tutorials/one-click-install-wordpress-on-ubuntu-14-04-with-digitalocean and Im stuck here:

Inside, you need to find the section that deals with the "/wp-admin/" section. It should look like this:

<DirectoryMatch ^.*/wp-admin/>
    AuthType Basic
AuthName "Please login to your droplet via SSH for login details."
    AuthUserFile /etc/apache2/.htpasswd
    Require valid-user

This part doesnt show anywhere and there is no instructions about how to check this out!

Any help?
