I’m following this tutorial:

I set up server and found my IP address. However, I can’t open nginx default server via my IP. It works only if I type localhost in browser.
I get the error: The connection has timed out
Why is it so?

Hi @ilyagvv,

Where are you configuring this, is it on your local machine or on a Droplet?

If it’s on your local machine this might be the reason. Can you confirm your what your Nginx configuration is to see if there are any issues with it?

  • Hi @KFSys, yes I do that on my local machine. Does it mean that I can only access my server via localhost?

As for conf file - I just installed nginx and never edited it. Expected to just get a default Welcome to nginx page.

    • Hi @ilyagvv,

Yep, you can access it via Localhost, if you want to use your IP address you’ll need to update your Router to forward traffic and so on.

If you want to host a website, I’ll recommend getting Droplet, it will be a lot easier.
