Nginx reverse proxy breaks my website

I created a subdomain and changed its nginx config file to:

server {
    listen 80;

    location / {

Everything works fine, the page loads except when I enter a login into my website the screen turns black. It only lets me login if I go to

What do I have to do so that I can login? is blocked by my school’s firewall for being “unknown”, isn’t.

  1. Did you already add the subdomain in the control panel?

  2. SSH into the Droplet and run tail -f /var/log/nginx/nginx_error.log to give you a live readout of nginx errors, then go to the browser and try What do you see?
