Not able to change the OS ( Kernal ) please help

July 30, 2014 1.1k views

I am trying to reset the kernal to ubuntu 12.4 from ubuntu 14.4 ...

I go to the settings, change the kernal, then go onto the putty to get to command line... shut it down from there and then restart it from the web site.. but it still seems to not change the kernal / OS... I am fresh to all of this and this is my first time... so I am not sure where to begin this front...

The kernel set on the DigitalOcean control panel must match the kernel installed on the droplet. So unless you've backported the packages for the Ubuntu 14.04 kernel and installed them on 12.04, you most likely will not be able you do this.

If you need help resetting the kernel to its original state, please file a support ticket so the team can fix you up.

Just to be clear, are you trying to just change the kernel or are you looking to change/reset the OS?

log in with putty and type

uname -r

this will show you the kernel being used.

I just did this on a test server and the uname -r output changed as expected.
