Not able to write '@' in console

Hi! I’m following the steps to install Discourse with DigitalOcean. I managed to create a droplet and add Discourse to it, my problem is that I’m not able to type ‘@’ in the console (I only get a ‘2’), and I’m not able to paste anything into it, so basically I’m stuck at the installation step where I’m supposed to enter the email and SMTP settings in the console. I’m at a MacBook, if that makes any difference. And I wasn’t able access the Droplet Console at DigitalOcean so I’m using the Recovery Console. Am I doing anything wrong or is there something I’m missing in regards to not being able to type ‘@’ or pasting into the console? Any help would be appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Hello there,

I’ll recommend using an ssh-client in order to install any software on your droplet. The recovery console is intended to give you access when conventional ssh-client won’t connect to the droplet or in case of emergency.

On another note the Copy/Paste functionality of our web console is a bit odd; the code backing it is custom due to the way the VNC window is implemented for accessing your Droplet. It isn’t a good idea, in my experience, to rely on the console for long copy/pasting like an SSH key.

First, regarding the recovery console, using SHIFT+2 should give you the @ symbol. What does symbol appears when you use the key combination?

Regarding connection to the Droplet, when you try to use the regular SSH terminal, what error do you use that prevents you from using the Droplet?
