Question

Outlook blocking emails from DO Droplet

After running the $5 Droplet for a couple of month with no issues, I have decided to move my main website over to DO. I setup the VM today, spent all day migrating the data, only to find out that Microsoft in their infinite wisdom have blocked any of their services from receiving emails from the IP that I got allocated (UK Region)

It’s not black listed anywhere else, I have DKIM, DMARC, SPF and rDNS all setup, works with Google, Yahoo, and my test machine with Spam Assassin.

I have filled out the form to request it to be unblocked only to get the standard reply:

Not qualified for mitigation
142.93.XX.XX
Our investigation has determined that the above IP(s) do not qualify for mitigation.

Can DigitalOcean request they unblock it?

I find it hard to believe they can legitimately block an IP despite me offering to send them proof it was only allocated to myself today.

Any hints / tips most welcome as I don’t want to have wasted a day’s work and destroy the VM to find out I get another IP that is the same or worse.

Hello, @MrCranky

In our public community, we aim to answer open questions about anything SysAdmin, DigitalOcean and beyond. However, we make every attempt to keep personal information safe and so don’t ever access personal account information here. This means we can’t provide help with any account or billing-related issues.

Please reach out to our amazing support team who will be more than happy to assist you with your account issue! :)

In the meantime you can try and submit another mitigation request as well. From my experience, Outlook’s team are likely to mitigate the IP address if you do another request. The SmartScreen filter they use it’s still causing too much issues and they will eventually lift the block on their end.

Hope that helps!

Alex

  • Hi Alex,

I reached out to support, Melody sent them an email confirming I was only allocated the IP yesterday, looks like they have lifted the block. Well they say they did and to wait 48 hours (probably just so I don’t email them again and they can enjoy their weekend!) Thanks for the reply.

  • Thank you! Gonna give this a shot and I’ll confirm results in the next few days.

Hello, @MrCranky

Thanks for confirming this.
