owncloud one-click downloads videos instead of playing them back

One-Click Install Apps Ubuntu

I remember this working with previous owncloud one-click instances. Now, however, it no longer plays back MP4 videos.... it downloads them instead of popping up a video player and playing it.

Does anyone know if this is an owncloud issue or if this is an issue with one-click install app?

Which version of Owncloud are you using?
The newer versions should come with a builtin video player: https://github.com/owncloud/files_videoplayer
And the earlier versions needs an app, like: https://apps.owncloud.com/content/show.php/HTML5+Video+Player?content=173950

I’m using the version in provided by the one-click install owncloud droplet. It says the version is 9.1.4.

The thing is, I think this was working just fine in older versions of the one-click install owncloud droplet. Did something change?

  • I’m searching around, but I can’t seem to find anyone who had this issue with recent owncloud versions.

Which browser are you using? Can you try a different, just to see if the problem might be the browser.

And have you tried with different videos (preferably with a different codec)? Maybe it’s just a problem with the codec of that file.

    • Negative. No videos work.

I dragged and dropped a webm to upload it. When I click to play it in owncloud, it just downloads.

Something is wrong with the installation.

    • Also, I tried this on 3 different computers: a windows box, a macbook, and a chromebook.

But, they were all running Chrome. My understanding is that chrome has the widest base of support for video playback. I’ll try firefox later today.

    • I think the default video player is suppose to be installed under /var/www/owncloud/apps. If you look in that directory, it doesn’t exist.

      • Okay, but then download and put this in the folder:

        • Okay, I did this and renamed the folder to files_videoplayer and it worked. But, this is something that comes standard with owncloud 9.1.4. Whoever made this new owncloud oneclickapp image didn’t do it correctly. Previous versions of the owncloud oneclickapp had this already working.

Thank you for getting back on this.
I’ve never used any of the one-click-apps, but of course they should be very easy to start using. And be as close to the default setup as possible.

@ryanpq Where do we report possible problems with one-clicks ?
