Paying with Paypal with no Credit Card in account

June 13, 2014 7.1k views
I usually add money to my account but do not have a credit card added. I am interested in purchasing the 5/month cloud server just to 'get my feet wet'. I have run into situations where, even though I had enough money in my account for payment, I was still required to have a credit card when I made a purchase. Q: Can I use the funds in my Paypal account without a Credit Card added?

  • I hope they activate this service

  • Well it seems that they froze activation via PayPal again and requires credit cards now (Dec 2015). I think they should at least give a clear indication on the activation page. This is really misleading and frustrating, to say the least!

But in the profile area right up it says "Thanks! Please add a credit card to activate your account." so it is a little confusing. I understand that if I don't add a credit card I cannot activate my account therefore I cannot instantiate a server. As I see it from your response you can pay with paypal and create a droplet without adding a credit card, am I right? Thanks!

Hi! We accept PayPal without the need to also have a credit card. On DigitalOcean, you're charged per hour. So there is no need to pay for a whole month up front. Though with PayPal, you're welcome to pay up front if that's what you want to do. https://www.digitalocean.com/pricing/
