Would you mind sharing how did you install PHPmyAdmin exactly?
What I could suggest in this case is either installing PHPmyAdmin manually, to do that you can follow the steps here:

Or rather than using PHPmyAdmin, I would recommend using an SQL client installed directly on your laptop and then use SSH tunnel to connect to your MySQL database.
