I followed https://www.digitalocean.com/community/tutorials/how-to-install-and-secure-phpmyadmin-on-ubuntu-14-04. I verified phpmyadmin is installed - the login screen pops up. Entering the SSH root un/pw just reloads the screen. Entering root mysql un/pw just reloads the screen. I verified in mysql the root users has full access to all dbs. I have also purged phpmyadmin and reinstalled it a few times.

Hi there @johnwhitney,

Rather than installing PHPmyAdmin via apt I would recommend installing it manually as you will get the latest version rather than the outdated on from the repository.
