Possible for family members to create accounts?

DigitalOcean Getting Started

I just have a question about account creation.

Say if someone in my household wants to create an account (same billing address as me since I live at home) will they be able to do it? I remember reading on here that for some reason you can't have more than 1 account with the same billing info.

Are there steps to be taken before/after creating the new account?

Just FYI there are currently no plans to create a second account for someone, but if someone has the same question, a good answer would be helpful for both me and other people.

If by 'account' you mean the ability to create and manage droplets, versus a unix login account, then you may want to look at https://www.digitalocean.com/community/tutorials/how-to-use-digitalocean-team-accounts

  • Okay but what about individual accounts?

    • My understanding is that 2 different payers that happen to be co-located was not a problem, since they will have different billing info, like their individual or business names. The problem, as I recall, was when you had one payer with multiple accounts. The tutorial above was indirectly addressing the later, where you had a single payer with one or more admins able to create and manage droplets (without the admins knowing the payee info like credit card or bank numbers).

      • ah I see so if someone in my family wants to create an account, they won't get locked out since they don't have the same name as me? Just making sure. Thanks for clearing things up

        • Yes, the definitely can create their own accounts. Since you'll be using the same billing info as well, I'd recommend opening a support ticket briefly explaining the situation so that in case your accounts are flagged for abuse, it'd be taken care of quickly without any issues.
