Postfix doesn't work

I’m trying to install postfix and get it working on a Ubuntu 20.04 server. I’ve followed the guide and while sending email I get following error:

refused to talk to me: 554-kundenserver.de (mxeue111) Nemesis ESMTP Service not available 554-No SMTP service 554-Bad DNS PTR resource record. 554 For explanation visit

I’ve followed the guide to rename the droplet which I did with mydomain.com but still having same issue.

How to fix it?

DNS changes might take some time in order to update. Can you verify that after the droplet name change you’ve restarted postfix and the error is still persisting?

That’s very interesting, usually, your PTR is created by the name of your Droplet. Since you’ve changed it’s name the PTR should have been updated as well. The best way to check is do a host on your Droplet’s IP address:

  1. host XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX

where XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX is your Droplet’s IP address. See if you see your domain in the output, this is where the PTR record should appear.

If this does not happen, I’ll suggest contacting DigitalOcean support so they can see if there is a reason for the PTR to not take place. You can contact them here:
