Question

Pre-sales server specs for Magento question

I need to set up an online shop but still unsure which Magento version to go for… Magento 2 has tons of speed issues and needs to be tweaked a lot, and Magento 1 will be unsupported eventually (though I know tons of companies will still use M1)

These are the specs I need both to run:

M1 M2
PHP 5.4, 5.5 and 5.6 PHP 7.1.3+ and 7.2.x
Apache 2.x Apache 2.2 or 2.4+

Now the question - can the droplets be customized to have all that’s necessary? I’m not sure I’ve seen the list of supported versions at DO. Thanks

Hey friend,

Great question! Our droplets can absolutely be customized to support these and any other software versions that you need. The only thing that may not be obvious about that is that you’re 100% in control, meaning you are the one that will be installing the software. Ideally you’d just pick something like Ubuntu 18 that has PHP 7.2 and the rest already bundled in it’s repositories, so installing this would have you set for M2:

apt-get update && apt-get install lamp-server^

Even if the versions you need are not standard in an up to date version of Linux, you can compile packages as needed. That gets a bit complex, and I can’t see you having to do that, but I just mean to say that customization does exist down to the most manual of ways. Hope that helps :)
