For WordPress websites, what I personally do is to:
- Install a caching plugin to reduce the overall load on the server itself
- Follow the steps from this tutorial here on how to optimize WordPress:

And finally, for all of my sites, I use Cloudflare as a CDN. They also have a free plan which includes free DDoS protection. That way some of the traffic is filtered before it even reaches my Droplets.

If you are using a CMS, I’ll recommend using caching plugins, as @BobbyIliev has pointed out. He has mentioned WordPress websites but all CMSs have caching plugins which you can use to help with that.
Another great solution is using a CDN. I would say it’s a must nowadays. It should help vastly with such requests and in most CDNs you even have options such as blocking attacks, additional firewalls, free SSL and so on. As a whole it’s a win, win situation.
