Samba suddenly stopped working on Ubuntu 12.04.4

 • Posted May 24, 2014

I have a server running Ubuntu 12.04.4 LTS (GNU/Linux 3.8.0-29-generic i686) and samba has suddenly stopped working. It’s been about a week since my last login when the connection was working fine.

I’ve tried using mount_smbfs from terminal without success and can’t see anything unusual in the smb logs at /var/log/samba

Just wondered if anyone else had experienced a similar problem, or had any ideas what I could try?

Thanks Dan

It probably ran out of memory and crashed. Check if it’s running:

sudo ps wwaux | grep samba

If it’s not, start it:

sudo start smbd
sudo start nmbd
