October 31, 2014 2.3k views

Hi

I have follow this gudie https://www.digitalocean.com/community/tutorials/installing-the-cacti-server-monitor-on-ubuntu-12-04-cloud-server but i end up whit the same error: SNMP error

I have check to see if it is installed and it is:

sudo apt-get install snmpd
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
snmpd is already the newest version.

I have run this command to:

sudo ps wwaux | grep snmp
snmp 7818 0.0 0.1 48476 3836 ? S 04:31 0:00 /usr/sbin/snmpd -Lsd -Lf /dev/null -u snmp -g snmp -I -smux mteTrigger mteTriggerConf -p /var/run/snmpd.pid
root 7944 0.0 0.0 11744 912 pts/0 S+ 04:37 0:00 grep --color=auto snmp

I have run and check this to:

sudo tail -40 /var/log/cacti/cacti.log

I take it you're running cacti on the same server you're monitoring, but against the external IP rather than the loopback (you're not using 127.0.0.1, but rather 178.62.111.189)

Have you allowed SNMP inbound to your box from outside? When using the external IP, it treats the connection as an external connection.
