Question

Set up NextCloud on Droplet with a webserver already running

I’d like to install NextCloud on my Droplet using this guide: https://www.digitalocean.com/community/tutorials/how-to-install-and-configure-nextcloud-on-ubuntu-20-04. But I already have an Nginx webserver installed that is serving multiple sites. If I install NextCloud via snap on this same Droplet will it bork my existing webserver configuration? And if, so, is there a straight ahead way to install NextCloud without doing that?

Hi @johnnyvenom,

I’m not sure what will NextCloud in this case use when installed via SNAP. What I can recommend is to backup your droplet and more precisely to use the Snapshots service:

https://docs.digitalocean.com/products/images/snapshots/

and try it out. You can always revert back to the previous stage.

  • Hi @johnnyvenom,

So, I’ve just tested this on my Droplet however using Apache2 rather than Nginx (this is what I had installed). Everything installed properly, however NextCloud did not run just because I had Apache2 already there. This means you’ll need to configure NextCloud on Nginx manually.
