Slow SSH on Home Network
Posted February 24, 20146.5k views
I'm having issues connecting to my droplet via SSH using my home network.
I'm using OSX and the terminal to connect to the server. Often hangs - or when does connect it's extremely slow.
However if I connect using my phone and an ssh client over 4G I get good speeds.
I read this could be a dns issue so I updated my dns to google - but still the same connection issues. Anyone got any ideas?
You can debug the SSH connections with your 'ssh' client with these 3 debug modes:
a. 'ssh -v user@IP' - Returns debugging at 'debug1' level
b. 'ssh -vv user@IP' - Returns debugging at 'debug2' level
c. 'ssh -vvv user@IP' - Returns debugging at 'debug3' level
Try each debuging mode one at a time. You'll see which step in the SSH connection takes time or fail.
