SPF Record (validated) not working.

October 19, 2014 2.4k views

Hi guys,

We have a major issue here. We've added an SPF record to our domain and tried every possible solution with it including following two for which we believe both should work, one blocking any server and the other one blocking every server but the one associated with mx record - our second droplet's mail server:
* "v=spf1 -all"
* "v=spf1 mx -all"

However, neither one of those work. We've tried the -all one first by trying to send an email from our server, and it went through without a bounce back, and we have received it on the other end. We then tried creating a whole new server and tried sending an email from there (this time using mx -all) and again - it did went through.

We've also tried having our domain (wehavebeenthinking.com.) as a host name instead of '@', as pointless as that may be - just to make sure.

We've also waited after each change for DNS records to get updated and checked it each time over whatsmydns.net

Please take a look below for our DNS setup for this domain. We're going crazy over this and would appreciate any help on it!

Best!

  • I suggest you go to mxtoolbox.com and test your MX, DNS, SPF, etc.

    Your current SPF includes zoho.com, make sure that is the right domain. You also have a soft fail on all other. Try +all and see what happens, also check if zoho requires DKIM validation.

    Not exactly sure what your issue is.
