SSH on Laravel Forge Not Allowed to edit PHP.ini

Posted on October 18, 2014

I’m not sure why but I keep getting a permission denied error when I try to edit the php.ini file in /etc/php5/frm/php.ini

I can edit files in my laravel directory without a problem.

These files are owned by root, so you can’t edit the files if you’re logged in as a regular user. The “forge” user should have sudo access, which executed commands as root, so you need to prefix the command with “sudo”:

sudo nano/vim /etc/php5/fpm/php.ini
