Have followed the Nginx installation and everything was going fine right up to the point where I had to update my wordpress to the latest version…Now im stuck!
I have had a quick look at https://www.digitalocean.com/community/questions/configuring-passive-ftp-so-wordpress-can-update-plugins--2 but cannot figure out how to do the rest. Something about using chmod. I have given permissions to the server user to access the file but my wordpress installation gets stuck on.
Ive been looking around the net and have found you could chmod the wp-content directory however i am unsure what permissions to give it or the command to use.
Thanks Oliver

Just wondering if i have to chmod the wp-content (i have changed the update method to direct so now its just fixing wp-content.)
Have chmoded wp-content and added (‘FS_METHOD’, ‘direct’); however after trying to upgrade i get this message… Unpacking the update… <br> <br>Verifying the unpacked files… <br> <br>Installing the latest version… <br> <br>Could not copy file.: /var/www/readme.html <br> <br>Installation Failed
What user owns /var/www? “stat /var/www” <br>Also - what user is nginx running as?
