Tableau connection with PostgreSQL Connection-Pool not working

Posted August 25, 2021 210 views

Hello Community,

im trying to publish a postgresql data source to our tableau-server. Connecting to the data source via tableau-desktop and then publishing it works fine. However when im trying to connect to the data source on the server I get an ERROR saying „unsupported startup parameter: options“. This seems to be related to the pg_bouncer. Does anyone know how to make the connection work or has some experience with a similar ERROR?

  • We have the same issue at Moneyflow. Talking to Tableau support they say:

    Having reviewed the logfiles we will review the issue relating to the JDBC driver can we please check with the DB admin the following, once completed can we then install the JDBC driver once more and test.
    Configure your PostgreSQL database proxy to ignore the options parameter.
    Configuration for PgBouncer:
    ignore_startup_parameters = options

    Can this be done?

Apparently this is a bug in the current version of tableau.

ERROR with PostgreSQL Connection-Pool on Tableau Server

Unfortunately i dont think the workaround can be done on DO.
