What is the reason for this report?

Vbulletin is crashing Mysql causing out of memory errors.

Posted on October 27, 2014

Hey guys!

So i volunteered to take over the hosting of an old art forum that i moderate and i decided to just put it up on my VPS as im already using it for a few things.

I didn’t expect it to really take up much in the way of resources, but I’m having some major troubles.

It keeps crashing mysql with out of memory warnings, and sometimes it will just hang at 100% cpu.

I have a 2gb ram server and a 1 gb swap file, on ubuntu 14.4

What really confuses me is that it seems to be spikes at random that cause the crash, so it could take 2 days or it could take half an hour. Is there any settings i would need to help fix this or do i just not have a powerful enough droplet?

I would appreciate the help if you have any insight!

Just a thought, but did you see the CVE regarding vBulletin?

CVE-2014-2021

Someone could be attacking you to exploit the vulnerability…

Not sure if that’s the case, but it would explain the randomness of the crashes.

If it helps at all these is the graphs at around the time it went down last
