What is the meaning of "transferring data from bam.nr-data.net?"

When I first start my Rails app I see a notification at the bottom of the browser “transferring data from bam.nr-data.net”

it’s a new relic domain.
they use it for benchmarking sites’ performance…browser injection etc.
you use new relic, right?
i do and i see it often. i think it’s actually quite a recent thing. only started in the last few months.
there’s some info on it here
