A load of 12 means that your droplet is under an insanely huge amount of stress possibly due to a runaway process or infection. It is unlikely you’ll be able to do much of anything to it while it’s in that state so I would recommend attempting a reboot in order to regain access and then start reviewing your log files. The utility top will also help in identifying what processes are causing the load (use Ctrl+c to exit top when you’re done).
