Hello,
I want to start my project on DO cloud but I can’t decide which Distro should I use. I will start with $ 5/mo plan now, and I’m going to run a web server. I can install WordPress, Joomla or run custom PHP scripts. Also I want gain some experience with Linux servers. Which distro can run them with good performance? Which distro should I use for that?

I’m a linux novice too, but I’m running the LAMP on Ubuntu 12.04 stack. It’s great for me. I run multiple Wordpress sites. It should do everything you mentioned in your post.

You can use Ubuntu and CentOS for your PHP based websites. They will perform great on both (this will depend from the droplet type as well, but for generic sites with not big overall traffic).
For WordPress, you can also use our one-click install application via the marketplace:
