Why does Static App have a 'region'?

Posted on February 3, 2021

When I create a static app using the App’s page, it asks me for the ‘region’ to deploy in (SF, NY, ec).

If these static apps are on digital oceans worldwide CDN, why is there a need for a region at all?

Great question! You are right, the region for static sites has little impact since the static site is propogated to CDN edge servers around the world. We included this as more of a technical detail to indicate where the source of truth for your static site is being stored. We have been discussing removing this indicator in the future.
