Why Doesn't My Domain Work?

July 23, 2014 3k views

After creating a new droplet and changing my DNS settings at cloud.digitalocean.com/domains, I get the following error in Google Chrome:

"The webpage at http://domain.com/ might be temporarily down or it may have moved permanently to a new web address.

Error code: ERRNAMERESOLUTION_FAILED"

Did you set the name servers with your registrar to point to NS[1, 2, 3].digitalocean.com?

  • Yes. I had my domain pointed to VPS #1, but I can't change it to point it to VPS #2. Havn't changed any name-servers or anything, just a couple of A records on the DgitalOcean panel.

  • What do your DNS records look like? What's the actual domain name?

  • The domain is "isaacwashere.com". My zone file, according to Digital Ocean is as follows:

    $TTL 1800
    @ IN SOA NS1.DIGITALOCEAN.COM. hostmaster.isaacwsahere.com. (
    1404521724 ; last update: 2014-07-05 00:55:24 UTC
    3600 ; refresh
    900 ; retry
    1209600 ; expire
    1800 ; ttl
    )
    IN NS NS1.DIGITALOCEAN.COM.
    NS NS2.DIGITALOCEAN.COM.
    NS NS3.DIGITALOCEAN.COM.
    MX 1 ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM.
    MX 5 ALT1.ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM.
    MX 5 ALT2.ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM.
    MX 10 ASPMX2.GOOGLEMAIL.COM.
    MX 10 ASPMX3.GOOGLEMAIL.COM.
    @ IN A 107.170.116.28

  • @ IN SOA NS1.DIGITALOCEAN.COM. hostmaster.isaacwsahere.com. (

You have a typo in your domain name. :)

  • Ah! That seems to have done the trick!

    Thanks for the help! :3

  • I have the same non-resolving situation of domain name by DO DNSes. The difference in my case is that I don't have any typos in my settings but I have installed Webuzo and first added my domain through the domain add-on function of Webuzo. Any advice for me?

  • @gtainfotech: What are your domain's nameservers set to? Have you added the domain name to your DigitalOcean Control Panel?

  • I have ns1/ns2/ns3.digitalocean.com as the DNSes at my domain registrar and ns1/ns2.digitalocean.com on Webuzo. And yes all the domains have been added to the DO control panel from the DNS link.
