Great question. This should not be related to how you run the process, but what the process is doing. First you will want to identify what that process is and what methods it uses to record it’s events (example: web server access logs), and then observe it’s logs (configuring it to log first, if necessary) to determine what it is doing at the times that it is using so much CPU. If the process is not capable of logging it’s activity, you would need to use something like strace:
