Question

why would DO run a pre-auth on my card to verify I am a real human and then lock my account immediately after signup?

Wow – very negative user experience for a new user just happened for me.

Digital Ocean just locked my account right after signup. I always use a VPN when online and I ALWAYS use Privacy.com cards online. Is this why they locked my account?

The $5 authorization from Digital Ocean hit my Privacy.com card and then when I tried to login from my cell phone it said, “Your account has been locked.” No explanation, no suggested steps to take, nothing.

Does anyone know if they are having some sort of system malfunction, or is this sort of thing usual for Digital Ocean? I came here because DO was recommended many times in the Discourse forums as a good place to host a new Discourse server.

That’s a really good question. It’s possible the issue is indeed coming from the request being by a privacy card with a VPN. The system might have preemptively decided to suspend the account just in case it was a stolen one.

For such occasions, you can always contact DigitalOcean’s amazing support team who will be more than happy to assist you with your account issue and can provide you with more information on the matter! :)
