Wildcard domain Cloudflare Error 1016 Origin DNS error.

Posted on March 10, 2021

Hi all,

In theory Digital Ocean app platform supports wildcard domain. I have two apps. One of them is only a static ReactJs site, where the subdomain works fine including SSL certificate.

The other app platform have a Dynamic web application (Deployed via Dockerfile, containing Laravel microservice and ReactJs app), here I cannot make it work.

If I type the subdomain (examle: demo.mydomain.com), then I am getting Cloudflare Error 1016 Origin DNS error.

I contacted support, but the ticket was closed without resolution, They suggested that I should just delete and re add the domain, but it did not work. They said that the SSL certificate was not generated properly, what was improper information, as I’ve checked the details of the cert in my browser and it was containing my wildcard *.mydomainname.com, and also I had the proper lock icon, therefore I assume this is an error with the CNAME resolution in CloudFlare, (I’ve tried the cname with dot at the end and without as well), but I am not able to resolve this issue, I’ve tried then to move back the DNS records (current state) to my original DNS provider and set the CNAME records there, and moving away from DO dns server, but no luck as well, I’ve re added the domain and tried at least 10 times as support suggested, but does not resolve the issue.

Anyone had the same issue, and found a solution?

Thanks
