Will a droplet restore from backup and/or snapshot preserve the original eth0 MAC address?

Posted on September 22, 2017

We want to set up a licensed OpenVPN AS server as a droplet and to be able to restore it from backup or snapshot if it breaks. If the restore process changes the MAC address, we believe our license will be invalidated, since it it bound to the specific MAC address of the licensed machine.

Hello,

I just tested that and it looks like that the MAC address changes. So what I could suggest is to request a license key reissue and you will be able to use the license on the new droplet.

Hope that this helps. Regards, Bobby
