(Will be) billed for droplets that are offline?

I looked at my current invoice, and I am being charged for droplets that are offline. Is this supposed to happen? Thanks!

Yes, the resources are rented to you and are no longer available to other users(Electricity price is very small compared to ip, disk, ram and CPU power prices). I’d suggest snapshots if you would like to get billed less but then you’ll get a new ip each time you restore from a snapshot.

When you power off your droplet it is simply powered off. Your disk space and data is still there and is preserved.

Keep in mind that you are still billed for droplets that are powered off becase your diskspace, CPU, RAM, and IP address are all reserved while it is powered off. If you want to save a Droplet for future use take a snapshot of it and then destroy it. You’ll be able to create a new Droplet from the snapshot image anytime to bring it back online.

Hope that this helps! Regards, Alex

Ive restored from snapshots, but never saw the IP change?
