Question

Wordpress 1-click - mail() working but Wordpress not sending mail

I’ve setup a Wordpress 1-click droplet following --> https://marketplace.digitalocean.com/apps/wordpress?ipAddress=188.166.156.227#getting-started

But wordpress isn’t sending (or they are falling somewhere) notification emails, like new comment, new user etc.

I can send an email using sendmail and I can run a php script using mail().

If I instal WP SMTP Mail plugin it works, but I would prefer to have a server wide setting such that all instances of wordpress dont need their own plugin.

Can someone point me in the right direction?

Hi @arrancurran,

I would recommend using the SMTP Mail Plugin as that way you are using Authentication and a different port than 25, usually 567. This is important as everywhere using the sendmail function or PHP mail() is considered unsafe and is usually used by spamming websites/scripts. As such most e-mail providers block/defer messages not using SMTP but sendmail or PHP mail() on port 25.

As such, I strongly recommend using an SMTP plugin, it will make your life easier, trust me!
